There’s No Place Like Home

Let me tell you a little bit about this exquisite little small town that I am proud to call home.   It just happens to be one of the Coolest Small Towns in America.

Walking down the streets of Lewisburg West Virginia you find it lined with Antique shops, clothing stores,  restaurants, an Irish Pub,  salons, two theaters,  bakeries, book stores and if this peaks your interest a couple of Realtors that have the inside scoop on showing you around so you can be a part of this beautiful piece of Almost Heaven!

I walked the dogs last night with my son and said hello to at least 15 people.  oh yeah, by the way I actually knew 10 out of the 15 people.  That’s another great thing about this town, I am proud to say I know probably 70% of these sweet people by name and can call them all  my friends.

We live in such a town that I can let my kids go to the park by themselves, which happens to be just “a hop skip and a jump” from the house.

On Spring nights we can walk to the park and watch Little League teams compete.  I can never chose sides because my kids and I are friends with almost everyone on both teams!

Football season around here happens to be my favorite time of year.  That’s when my small group of friends grab their lawn chairs starting August 1st and get to chill out 5 days a week and watch our little guys cracking some helmets on the football field.  While we relax and enjoy some much needed adult time.

This is also a place where kids will randomly come up to you on the street and beg to have sleepovers.  Yes, my house has been known to have some pretty awesome sleepovers.  Parent’s trust each other and kids become extended family.

Your church family becomes your true family. We rally to pray for each other and the pastor and his wife care about you not just on Sundays. You can even have youth group on your back porch. If you ever want a place to call your Church home follow me to FBC Fairlea.

Then there’s the Festival’s….
Chocolate festival where you can walk downtown all day and consume enough chocolate to make you physically ill, but it’s soooo worth it.

Taste of our Town (T.O.O.T)  happens to be my favorite.   From pizzas to peaches, music and friends.  Oh my, take my word on it, if there is ever a time to visit this town T.O.O.T is The time to come!!

image

My kids are involved in many activities from dancing to sports.  And the local performing arts community is absolutely amazing.   There is always something going on from First Fridays to Friday Night Alive and the Lewis Theater.

Winters are brutal.   But we take advantage of snow days by building snowmen and sledding with our neighbors, who just happen to be our extended (un) family.  Then cuddling up with a movie and hot chocolate.

Summers are spent hiking and meeting friends and the local pool or spending evenings in the  backyard making smores and catching lightening bugs.
We even still take advantage of drinking from the water hose in the back yard. Who needs water parks, when you can pull 90 ft of tarps together and have a party with 30 of your closest friends for free!!!

This is the town I call home…where I teach my kids right from wrong, I show them the  true values of family  and memories will last forever.  Where friendships will last a lifetime and I actually have a hard time distinguishing friends and actual family. We kiss and hug each other when we say hello and also when we say goodbye and never miss a chance to say I love you.

What a great article about my former hometown! And it was especially sweet because my family lived at 125 Sunshine Drive from 1994-2006!! It looks like you are enjoying the yard and neighborhood quite a bit. May you make many happy memories there!
