It’s a miracle Mom!! I heard that phrase come out of my son’s mouth when his daddy attempted (and miserably failed) to come home in April of 2013. He excitedly told his Grandma and Papaw that God answered our prayers and Daddy was coming home. Before we knew, dad was gone.
How do you explain to an 8 year old that just because Daddy left doesn’t mean God didn’t answer our prayers? I told him as simple as this….God listens to our prayers, son. He knows how much we love Daddy and we have to have faith that God knows what He is doing. (I know that sounds so vague, but when talking to a broken hearted child, I think I did a decent job)
This past year has had its ups and downs…after 11 failed attempts of coming back home and then exiting our lives yet again, you would think that we should just roll over and play dead, move on with our lives and stop the madness. Friends have told me that if I am not willing to do this for me, then think of the kids, Don’t you think that they have been through enough?
You know, this doesn’t make me a bad parent as some people might perceive me. I am showing my kids the most important lesson of all. Unconditional Love!! My kids don’t see me as a failure, they see me as a strong woman who loves their daddy no matter what! That’s right….No matter what!
My kids have been taught to forgive, to love unconditionally, to honor both their Father and Mother, and most importantly…Never lose your faith in God. That is something that I hope they take with them and use in their own adult lives someday.
We don’t use the word “Miracle” much in our house anymore…..but as I was reading this morning in my Bible, For some reason, all I could think about is that word. So, I spent this morning looking up some of the miracles Jesus performed. I’d like to share a few with you.
Matthew 4:23, Jesus healed sickness and disease.
Matthew 14 Jesus fed 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish.
Mark 1:23-28 Jesus healed the man who was possessed by and unclean spirit
Mark 1:40-45 Jesus healed the man with Leprosy
He healed a women with a hemorrhage, a man with a withered hand, an epileptic boy, two blind men at Jericho, Blind Bartimaeus, a deaf man, Malchus’s ear, Ten lepers, and Peter’s Mother in Law…..and if that isn’t enough, he even raised people from the dead!! (ask Lazarus about that when you get to Heaven!!)
This is the same Jesus that walked on water, calmed the raging seas, and turned water into wine.
As I was reflecting this morning on the miracles Jesus performed in the Bible this morning, I realized that he still performs miracles today.
It’s a miracle that:
God healed my mom last week and she is now home and recovering.
God is healing my Uncle David, as I type, of severe pneumonia that could have easily taken his life.
It’s a miracle that I didn’t kill my children during the past few weeks of our endless snow days.
I woke up this morning happy and healthy…that is a miracle!
I folded and put away the laundry….that is nothing short of a miracle!!!!
It is true, Miracles happen every day. You may laugh and think this sounds Ludacris that I would be so dramatic to think by folding laundry I have witnessed a miracle…..well, let me tell you this. UNTIL YOU START TRUSTING GOD TO HELP YOU THROUGH THE SMALL THINGS IN YOUR LIFE, HOW WILL YOU EVER EXPECT HIM TO HELP YOU THROUGH THE BIG THINGS!
I think I just had revival in my house this morning. I get it!
The one word that the kids and I were saving for Daddy to come home, is the same word that God showed me today is something I can use while folding my laundry!
And if you still can’t follow what I am saying, when your kids come home from school today, look in their big beautiful eyes…and thank God for those little “Miracles” He gave you!
You still may be confused as to why I love that stinky rotten man I married 14 years ago…I don’t expect you to. God has given me the ability to love unconditionally and I have mastered the art of forgiveness. I don’t know if he is ever going to come home, I am not even sure that is what either of us want anymore, but God knows what He is doing and He sees both of our hearts. In Matthew18, Peter asked Jesus, “How many times should I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? up to seven times?” Guess what Jesus said…..”Not seven times but seventy times seven!”
I will end with this story….I was talking my dearest friend on earth yesterday, and as always, we were spending the morning trying to solve most of the world’s problems. I was telling him that I just wanted to be able to talk to my ex ,and let him know I love him, go to counseling, take care of him, I just don’t understand why he won’t fully except what I want to offer him…..here was his response, are you ready? I hope you get what I am about to tell you!!!
God asks the same out of us every day, look at how many times we turn our back on Him, yet He loved us so much, He died on the cross for our sins. He is our Counselor, the Great Physician, and we can talk to Him 24/7.
I challenge you today, I am also challenging myself….Let God be in the big and small things in your life. Give it all to Him and sit back and see the miracles He is going to give you in your life.
This is a very hard blog post to write, it shares personal information that some people may look down on me or possibly even think that I have finally lost my mind….but this is straight from my heart. By sharing this, my hope for you is that you see the Love of God and the unconditional love He has given me. Maybe there is someone in your life you should love just a little bit more, or someone that you have been withholding forgiveness from. Look guys, I am not saying it is easy….God knows I struggle every day. But it is totally worth it!!
What have you got to lose?
